Developed by the NSW Reconstruction Authority, Get Ready for Floods: Training for Community Organisations, aims to build awareness of the risks posed by floods. By the end of this course will understand the risk of floods and know how to prepare yourself, your clients and your organisation so everyone can stay safe.

The program is split into three sections:

1. Flood awareness in the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley
- The first module is focussed on the flood-prone area of the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley helping you to understand the nature, likelihood, history and the phases of flood management in the Valley.
2. How to prepare for a flood
- The second module explains how to prepare your clients, your staff and your organisation for a flood.
3. What to do before, during and after a flood
- In the third module you will learn what to do immediately prior to a flood, during a flood and immediately afterwards.
Duration
3-4 hours. The online self-paced course consists of 3 modules and 3 quizzes. You may complete the full program or choose individual modules to refresh your knowledge.Learning outcomes
Module 1 - Flood Awareness in the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley
- Understand flooding in the Hawkesbury–Nepean Valley and how likely it is to flood
- Understand the history of flooding in the Valley and the four key factors
- Understand the three phases of flood management and how floods are managed
- Reflect on key learnings and test your knowledge
Module 2 - How to prepare for a flood
- Understand flood preparedness and how to improve flood preparedness
- Understand flood preparedness for your organisation and flood planning
- Prepare an organisational flood plan (including where to get reliable information, preparing, knowing triggers, and communicating and practising the plan)
- Understand how to support your clients
- Reflect on key learnings
Module 3 - What to do before, during and after a flood
- Understand responding to flooding and what to do immediately before a flood
- Understand how to support your clients before, during, and after a flood
- Understand what to do during and after a flood
- Understand where you and your clients can get support
- Reflect on key learnings and test your knowledge
