This course builds on the fundamentals of emergency management covered in the Foundations in Emergency Management online course. It enables learners to apply the key concepts of emergency management arrangements in NSW.

Learning outcomes

  • Reinforce and apply the key concepts of Emergency Management
  • Identify appropriate methods of conducting an all hazards, risk and vulnerability analysis for the organisation/community
  • Identify and implement appropriate prevention/mitigation, preparedness, response and/or recovery strategies
  • Explain and use a multi-agency approach to distinguish between the roles and responsibilities of key agencies/organisations at different stages of the comprehensive approach
  • Outline implications of emergency management requirements for organisational planning, policies, procedures, systems and resource allocation
  • Describe strategies for building disaster resilience within the community
  • Examine emergency management plans and how these practically apply at the local level
  • Identify strategies to prepare and engage stakeholders/organisations and communities
  • Practical appreciation of the various roles they play in emergency management

Target audience

This course is recommended for people who:
  • Are members of an emergency management committee (or expect to become a member)
  • Are currently involved in or expect to be involved in emergency management
  • Are performing (or expect to perform) an emergency management role in some capacity
  • Wish to understand emergency management arrangements in NSW.
