Applying Evacuation Management Concepts

The overall aim of this training is to support learners to apply evacuation management principles for all hazards that may impact a community in NSW. It assists learners to understand the requirements and impacts of evacuations in a community so they can effectively contribute towards planning, implementing, coordinating, and managing the five stages of evacuation. The course covers guidance on applying the NSW Evacuation Management Guidelines.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand evacuation management principles and how they apply before and during emergencies
  • Contribute towards planning and managing the activities at each stage of the evacuation process: Decision, Warning, Withdrawal, Shelter, and Return
  • Determine the key issues, critical considerations, and decisions that are required at each evacuation stage
  • Understand the key roles and responsibilities in planning and managing evacuation before and during emergency operations
  • Locate key planning documents that contain local evacuation plans
  • Practice the process of developing an evacuation action plan as part of an emergency planning team
  • Understand the legislative provisions, policy, guidelines, and the NSW emergency management arrangements that relate to community evacuations

Target audience

This workshop is suitable for employees and volunteers from combat agencies, functional areas, local government, and participating organisations who may be responsible for or involved in:
  • Developing pre-emergency community evacuation plans at a local level
  • Determining the requirement for, planning, and management of a community evacuation operation in NSW.
